Our own Jo Anne Alcorn is racing for the 5th time in the Air Race Classic, previously known as the Powder Puff Derby. This all women transcontinental race has been running since the mid 1970's and every year it has a different route. ARC mission is to encourage and educate future women pilots, increase public awareness of general aviation, demonstrate women's roles in aviation and present and promote the tradition of pioneering women in aviation!
Jo will be flying her Cessna 182 cross country with a 20 race veteran as her partner. The race consist of 50 teams of 2-3 pilots each. The contenders come from all walks of life from 30 different states around the U.S., the youngest being 19 to the oldest at 91 years young! This year's race starts out in Lake Havasu City, AZ and goes cross country to the finish line at Sporty's in Batavia, OH and runs from June 19-22nd.
